Although some say that this love is impossible, wonderful flavours can be born on your palate from the love of quality chocolate and the right wine. Whether it's white, milk or dark chocolate, be sure to try each with your favourite wine. Alternatively, we have a few match tips for you to keep in mind.

It is difficult to identify both flavours on the palate due to the high amount of sugar in wine or chocolate. So, you should consider the sugar balance between wine and chocolate before pairing. It may be a good pairing with sweet wine in order to keep this balance with chocolate.

For the most ideal tasting experience, begin with chocolate that has the lowest percentage of cocoa and sugar then try to match lighter, more elegant flavoured chocolates with lighter-bodied wines. Likewise, the stronger the chocolate, the more full-bodied the wine.

The sugar and aroma intensity of the chocolate is important for the correct pairing. For example, dark chocolate pairs well with full-bodied, tannin driven wines like a Kalecik Karası, Cabernet Sauvignon or Syrah. The density of the chocolate allows you to identify more fruity aromas by dominating the tannins that cause bitterness in the wine.

Milk chocolate pairs nicely with a full-bodied Öküzgözü and Merlot. White chocolate pairs beautifully with white wines like Narince, Chardonnay or a Sauvignon Blanc. The creaminess from the white chocolate complements and cuts the acidity in white wines. White chocolate also pairs nicely with some sweet sparkling wines, Ice wines, Sherry or Moscato.

You should follow a tasting order from white chocolates with elegant texture and light-bodied wines to darker chocolates and full-bodied wines. It’s a matter of personal taste, finding the right wine-chocolate match is still up to one's taste. Some found this type of pairing a great combination, however, others find this too much. For me, I’m not a fan of pairing wines with white chocolate due to its strong milky flavour, although I know many are. You can write your own story by experiencing it in the light of these steps.
